January Tornadoes in DeFuniak Springs?
1/3/2023 (Permalink)
Our local team in Crestview, DeFuniak Springs, and Chipley team has been responding to water damage emergencies for over twenty years. This time last year, a possible tornado touched down by Bellini Road. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office reported that the tornado touched down and hopped across the road, pulling some roofs off several mobile homes.
Florida is one of the most active states for tornadoes, averaging 60 twisters a year. According to Florida Disaster, summer season tornadoes (June-September) typically occur along strong sea breeze boundary collisions and from tropical cyclones. Spring season tornadoes (February-May) can be more powerful and deadly as they are spawned from severe supercells along a squall line ahead of a cold front. These types of tornadoes are also possible in the fall and winter months (October-January). Florida tornado climatology shows us that strong to violent tornadoes are just as likely to occur after midnight as they are in the afternoon.
