Dog Causes Water Damage in Santa Rosa Beach Home
When you think of water damage, it might conjure up images of a broken pipe, an overflowing bathtub or maybe a dishwasher pouring copious amounts of water in the floor. Sometimes water loss events occur in unusual ways.
SERVPRO handled mitigation of water damage from a Santa Rosa Beach homeowner that came home from to find the sprinkler they left running to water their garden had been dragged into their home by the family dog through the doggy door.
Our technicians arrived quickly after the initial phone call and immediately scoped the room to identify areas that held excess moisture. The sprinkler ran for a few hours within the home after the dog brought in and soaked the area rug, window treatments, floor, upholstered chair, and love seat. We removed the area rug and window treatments for drying at another location and used extraction wands on the floor, loveseat, and chair.
SERVPRO employees carry certifications in many restoration sciences, including water removal technician (WRT) and we know how to identify areas water is most likely to have migrated to and the best practices for extraction. After thoroughly removing the remaining water, we began setting the room up for drying.
We placed the cushions from the chair and loveseat in a tented position, meaning they were standing facing each other with the tops touching at an angle. This action allows for better airflow around them for faster drying. Wood furniture has the potential to swell and break framing joints when saturated.
Due to fast action by the homeowner for bringing our emergency response team out so quickly after the event, made us able to save his loveseat and chair but any swelling of the wood occurred. Once the area confirmed dry thought our moisture readings, we cleaned and disinfected all surfaces to ensure they were sanitary and healthy.
